The Caribou
The Caribou is a multi-purpose adventure packraft focused on backcountry and sidecountry trips on flatwater, lightwater, and bike rafting.
The Caribou features a high volume hull with a classic stern to minimize weight and bulk, so you won’t have to worry about fitting everything in your pack, or your boat once you are on the water. The late rise bow provides additional foot room and makes carrying bulky heavy items like bikes and packs a breeze.
The Caribou is also available in both our lightweight and standard 210d hull fabrics so you can choose whether to optimize packability for backpacking or durability for a broader range of uses.
Note: Due to the specialised bags utilized by most bike-packers, Cargo Zipper models do not include internal dry bags or internal attachments for clipping dry bags in place. However, internal dry bags can be purchased separately and used in the Caribou without the internal attachments.
2025 Model Refresh Features
The Caribou hull design is unchanged for 2025, but Alpacka Raft have added two features to improve versatility and replace some of the options from the discontinued Classic.
First, an inflatable backrest has been added, which provides more comfort for longer days on the water. This will make the Caribou closer in fit and comfort to the older Classic. Of course, you can leave it behind if you want to minimize weight.
Second, it is also available as Build to order in the harder wearing standard weight 210d hull option. Previously, the Caribou was only available with Alpacka Raft’s lightweight 210d hull fabric. The standard weight fabric is more durable for a broad range of uses while the lightweight fabric maximizes packability.
Weight Capacity
The Caribou is designed for extra capacity at minimum weight. The following capacities are general guidelines based on our experience and performance goals. For more information, please visit our max capacities page:
Paddler. Up to 113kg
Cargo. Optimum performance with up to 36kg balanced load in the Cargo Fly, plus bicycle on bow. Up to 63kg depending on conditions and paddler experience.
Hunting. Hunter plus 22kg of personal gear and 54kg animal weight, more weight possible depending on conditions.
Max. 226kg on flatwater under ideal conditions
Note: The Caribou comes in a single size and fits most paddlers plus a bike. If you’re well 6’2”+ heigh or weigh over 100kg+, the slightly larger Alpacka Raft Mule may be a better fit and also provide a little more flotation.
*Due to the handmade nature of Alpacka Raft packrafts, dimensions will vary slightly from boat to boat.
Weights
Open No TiZip - 2.3kg
Open WITH TiZip - 2.5kg

*Due to the handmade nature of Alpacka Raft packrafts and natural variances in weights between different colors and production runs in their fabrics, all weights are estimated and will vary from boat to boat.
*Weights are the LW 210d versions. Add ~350grams for Standard coated 210d fabric.
