The Alpacka Raft SCOUT

Packrafts allow us to access lakes and rivers where traditional watercraft simply can't go. And there are not many more inaccessible places for traditional watercraft such as high mountain lakes or a remote estuarine river on a long coastal walk. High mountain lakes provide solitude and outstanding fishing that seems to always be just beyond the reach of your cast from shore. Estuarine river mouths are sometimes too deep to wade, or too wide to safely swim. For these places, you need a packraft that is light and compact enough to not get left behind when cutting weight in the final stages of packing, but durable enough to hold up in the wild.

At just ~1.6kg, the fourth generation Alpacka Raft Scout is the most comfortable and competent mountain lake and flat water packraft Alpacka have ever built. The hull shape is derived from the Classic, which provides substantially better tracking and paddling performance than previous generation Scout models. It also has additional legroom and is comfortable for paddlers up to 6’2”. The Scout features Alpacka’s lightweight 210denier nylon tube fabric and 420denier floor. The Scout is also an excellent option for kids, summer trips to the local lake, and easy flatwater floats on the local river. The similarly designed Alpacka Raft Refuge and Whitewater Refuge is recommend for extended backcountry trips with more paddling.

Build Configuration - open

The Alpacka Raft Scout is available only in the Open build configuration. Additional tie down options can be added as a DIY upgrade.

Sizing & Specifications

*Weight includes all components except stuff sack, inflation bag, and repair kit.
**Packed size is a reference measurement based on folding in thirds lengthwise and rolling from the bow. There are many other methods of rolling and folding the boats that will result in a different packed size that may be more or less efficient for packing depending on the situation.
***Max Capacity is the maximum total weight (paddlers and cargo) that the boat can reasonably carry in flatwater under ideal conditions. Actual capacity for any given trip will vary widely based on the paddler’s skill and water conditions. Please review our weight carrying capacity guide for further details.
